Hello fathers (and everyone else) and welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors! I’m still continuing with my upcoming urban fantasy novel, Storm of the Gods, which will *hopefully* have its final query letter ready to go so I can move on. Last week, Derek was mentally preparing himself for whomever was choosing to sneak up on him. This week, we see why that was a very, very, unwise decision…
I snapped my elbow back, and was rewarded with the hard crunch of shattering cartilage and a roar of pain. I whirled around, bringing my foot up to kick my attacker. The tip of my boot grazed along his jaw, knocking him onto the ground.
I reached over my shoulder and drew the sword slung over my back. The curve of the kopis gleamed under the sunlight, the classic Spartan blade a match for whatever he’d tried to attack me with.
Which was… a sickle?
I glanced at the man coughing and spitting blood on the ground. He picked himself and his weapon up and faced me. I had a brief moment to take in his appearance.
In other news, while the first part of my Young Adult Fantasy story is starting to take more shape, I admit that I haven’t been keeping my promises to myself in regards to writing thanks to the hassles and chaos of buying a condo. Which leads me to remark that I won’t be posting next week’s snippet. Saturday is the big move and if I’m being completely honest with myself, I need a day to be completely lazy and not have to worry about anything. If I get this day (because my so-called-vacation is filling up fast), I even plan to stay away from writing (I’m having two full chalkboard walls in my office and the paint will need to dry anyway). All I’m going to do is sleep in, enjoy my bean bag chair on my balcony, work on my colouring books, read, and eat something sugary. Everything else will wait for another day. 😉
Remember to check out the other Weekend Writing Warriors authors for romance, sci-fi, fantasy, and more, and to all the fathers and dads out there, I hope you have a wonderful day. You’ve earned it!
