Sunday Snippet: “We can handle it.”

wewriwa

Just made it in! This week has been crazy for me, and is only going to get crazier, but I would never forget to write my 8Sunday/Weekend Writing Warrior post! With Midnight Sky gaining ground on its release date, I thought it would be suiting to carry on from last week. In the snippet below, main character Claire is trying to help her insufferably stubborn captain to joining a bar fight…

He dropped the unconscious man and whirled on me again, still furious. “I told you to wait outside!”

“Seems like you could use help,” I barked.

Sawyer narrowed his eyes to slits. If I weren’t part of his crew, I would be afraid of him. Sawyer was the son of one of the most dangerous pirate Clans ever to exist. He wasn’t the kind of person to be crossed.

But after being on his crew for three months, I knew he would never hurt me, and that his pride– and arrogance– often got in the way of his safety.

“We can handle it,” he snapped.

There are secrets, there are betrayals, and there are sacrifices…

The Behemoth has been destroyed, and the bloodthirsty Hellions seem to have left Westraven. But Claire Abernathy’s mind is not at ease. A terrible disease plagues her sister, appearing to have been brought on the Vesper, the leader of the Hellions beyond the tear between worlds– the Breach.

To save Abby and stop the Hellions for good, Claire must find the machine her parents built before the attacks, and fix it before the monsters return. To do so, she needs the help of her crew, and must ignore the secrets and rivalries between her captain and the man she saved.

Because the Hellions are not the only dangers following Claire. Twisted humans and old enemies surface to stop her and destroy all she loves. While she is determined to endure the trials, a single betrayal could shatter the hope of a better world, and force Claire to make a choice that will cost her dearly…

I’m super excited about this release and definitely can’t wait to hear feedback. I’ve still got tons of open spots for the blog tours, which are listed below…

MIDNIGHT SKY RELEASE DAY BLITZ – AUGUST 2 | MIDNIGHT SKY BLOG TOUR – AUGUST 3-10

In other news, I’ve gotten the Beta edits back for Amber Sky, the first of two Dark Sky prequel novellas due for release in October. There’s a fair amount of work, but I’m getting ready to crack down and push myself to prep it for my editor. The cover is due next month, and I’m very excited to see how it turns out.

I’m also in the editing stages of another novel, which is turning out to be an interesting challenge. Don’t get me wrong– I’m leaning from it, but I also kind of cringe when I realize how many times I have to re-read, and re-read, and re-read, and re-read x 50. That said, the sooner I have it done, the sooner it can move onto its next stage, which is what I want.

As far as the website, there are some minor changes, but basically everything is up and running. I’ve *supposedly* set up a newsletter and haven’t really tested it out (don’t think anyone has signed up), but I’ll be offering free copies of Amber Sky to subscribers, potentially doing the same for Smoke Sky when it comes out in the winter. What do you guys think– is that good incentive? And if you use Mailchimp and Jetpack… what’s a good method of learning how your newsletter works?

Also, news for YA/Elise Kova fans. I’m going to be featuring Crystal Crowned on Monday as part of the blog tour, and am super excited to do so. The whole media kit is great, and the post will be jam-packed with goodies. Be sure to check it out!

That’s all I’ve got for now! I’m staying up past my bedtime (again), so I’m clocking out for the night. Be sure to check out the other fantasticWeekend Writing Warriors and leave them some love on their fabulous blogs. Cheers!

Ooh, Sawyer sounds like quite a character!

I signed up for one of the blog tours, and I’ll be happy to test your sign-up form- just tell me where. I don’t use MC in conjunction with Jetpack, but if you go to the page for the list in Mailchimp, you should be able to click on stats off to the right, and it’ll give you pretty detailed info on your list behavior. You should also be able to set notifications for subscribes, etc. to be sent to your email.

He is– he’s so much fun to write. 😀

Thank you so much! The link for the signup form is on the left of the page under the social media buttons. I used a plugin for it, so hopefully it works. I’m thinking I’ll use my alternate email address to test it out as well. Thanks so much for your help! 😀

Well, I got the confirmation, so I should be on your list. It seemed to work just fine.

I saw that, thank you! Hopefully next week I’ll be able to send out some goodies and really give it a test drive. Which means I should do research haha. 😉

Fun times ahead for you. 😀Let me know if you have questions. I’m no expert, but I recently finished Nick Stephenson’s course, and set it all up according to his plan, autoresponders and all. It’s a huge pain to set up, but nice to watch the subscribers roll in without having to do more than tweak every now and then. You’ll get there!

Sawyer doesn’t sound like he’d be a lot of fun to deal with. ;D Great excerpt!

He’s a challenge to be sure, but without giving too much away, I can tell you that he has a lot of character development in MIDNIGHT SKY. 😉

She seems to know him pretty well, and trust him. This is a good sign that he’s more than arrogant and ornery. Fun snippet!

He’s definitely moody, but you’re right, she knows him better than he thinks, and knows just what to do to get under his skin and support him. I really love writing their relationship. 🙂

Oh, is that a hint as to what will happen next? Maybe his pride and arrogance will get them both into trouble. Fabulous snippet! 🙂

I like reading characters like Sawyer, especially when they encounter a woman who knows her own mind, and isn’t overly impressed by his “big tough man” routine. Fun times for them both.

In my own life, I prefer more calm. Great for life; not so much for stories….

That was one of the reasons I loved writing Claire and Sawyer’s relationship so much. They’re both stubborn and stick to what they think is right and have to work at being around each other. But you’re right, calmer relationships are better for real life. 😉
