Holy smokes– is it Sunday already? Seriously? Where did all my time go?! I’m so behind! *minor hyperventilation… uses ice cream therapy* Okay. I’m much better now. I’ll come back to all that in a second. Right now, you’re here for the Weekend Writing Warriors Sunday Snippet. In which case, welcome! I got lots of great feedback on last week’s snippet from Midnight Sky, the second Dark Sky novel, most of the comments revolving on whether or not cranky captain Sawyer was going to eat his words assuming he could handle a little bar fight. Let’s find out how the rest of the crew is faring, shall we? (P.S.: I changed the title of the post because I couldn’t find a quote to use. This is all action, friends!)
A heavy crash caught our attention. Nash and two Rattails were lying on the ground, caught in a scuffle among the remains of a broken table. Nash was bleeding from a cut at the corner of his eyebrow, but he didn’t seem to notice the injury. He rolled onto his feet, grabbed a broken table leg and used it like a baton, swinging and smashing it into the heads of his attackers.
A few feet behind him, Nash’s lover Gemma was hanging on the back of a Rattail. Her arm was wrapped around his throat as she tried to choke him unconscious, screaming like a banshee. The Rattail growled and stumbled back, slamming Gemma into the wall. She cried out, but maintained her grip. He drove her back twice more before she was forced to release him. The Rattail roared and whirled around with a savage punch that would have caused Gemma serious injury if she hadn’t ducked and rolled away.
There are secrets, there are betrayals, and there are sacrifices…
The Behemoth has been destroyed, and the bloodthirsty Hellions seem to have left Westraven. But Claire Abernathy’s mind is not at ease. A terrible disease plagues her sister, appearing to have been brought on the Vesper, the leader of the Hellions beyond the tear between worlds– the Breach.
To save Abby and stop the Hellions for good, Claire must find the machine her parents built before the attacks, and fix it before the monsters return. To do so, she needs the help of her crew, and must ignore the secrets and rivalries between her captain and the man she saved.
Because the Hellions are not the only dangers following Claire. Twisted humans and old enemies surface to stop her and destroy all she loves. While she is determined to endure the trials, a single betrayal could shatter the hope of a better world, and force Claire to make a choice that will cost her dearly…

I can’t believe that in just over two weeks, I’ll have another book released! And it’s only getting crazier! Following some recent advice from an amazing author, I started reaching out more to bloggers for the Midnight Sky blog tours and promos. Most of the responses have been really encouraging and I’m so happy I took the time. Research pays off! If you’re one of the bloggers who signed up (and I know some of you are), never forget that you are awesome and I appreciate this more than I can say.
As excited as I am for these promos, I’m behind on a couple guest posts I promised to write. Between writing and the Real Job, I just haven’t had time, and now I have three! But, I’m sure I’ll round them out soon and send them off. I also promised Beta reads for a couple authors, and will be working on those next week (cross my heart!).
Last but not least, while Midnight Sky is on the forefront of my mind (especially after reading an enthusiastic review that makes me feel like all the authors I read and fangirl over), I do have other books I want to promote, such as Storm Born, which is on sale on Kindle and Kobo for 0.99, and 50% off if you use the Smashwords promo!
A single night can change your life… for the worst.
It’s been a century since the last Centennial Storm, the calamitous phenomenon that covered the world in disasters– tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, tsunamis, and dust storms– caused not by nature, but by alien creatures from another realm. The Stormkind.
Ava Reid tries not to think about that night, when she was caught in a hurricane and brought face to face with one of the Stormkind, the man with a dagger, and the agony she felt when he stabbed her with a crystal blade. Yet as she and the rest of Florida’s citizens begin to rebuild their lives, Ava can’t help but notice strange things happening around her. Things she seems to be causing. The gusts of wind and sudden floods attract the attentions of a mysterious stranger who leaves her clues, and the deadlier men following her.
It isn’t long before Ava is swept up into a wild conspiracy, led by a secret society that knows the truth about the Stormkind– and what their enemies have planned for the world she loves. If she wishes to protect her friends and her family, Ava must harness her strange new abilities and become part of the Stormkind society. Because if she loses control, there will be no force strong enough to stop her…
And that’s all I have for now! So now you understand why I was freaking out so much in the beginning of the post. But it’s all coming together, and my vacation is in less than a month (*thanks all the gods*). Be sure to check out the other Weekend Writing Warriors blogs and send some love their way– they all deserve it! Cheers!
