Sunday Snippet: “She had nowhere to run.” And Upcoming Sign Ups!

Guess who’s overwhelmingly and crushingly busy again? This gal! More on that later. First things first: It’s time for Weekend Writing Warriors, aka 8Sunday, the weekly blog tour where indie authors showcase their newly released, upcoming, or current works in progress. This will be my last week with Demon’s Daughter, since next week I’ll be expecting the cover for Smoke Sky, the next novella in the Dark Sky series which will be released December 6. More on that later. For now, please enjoy Constance kicking ass:

I nearly collapsed from the wave of vertigo, but I would think about my possible concussion later. The monster had Dro pressed up against a wall. She had nowhere to run.

I clenched my fist around my knife and rammed it into the Red’s back, making it stiffen in pain. I kept stabbing as it whirled, throwing out its hand. I narrowly leaned away from the slap, but drove myself forward again and shoved my knife into its heart. I stabbed as fast as I could, twisting the knife until it finally went down.

By the time I delivered the last stab, my arm was almost numb. It throbbed with pain and was soaked in hot, sticky blood. Monster blood burned, but I had too much adrenaline coursing through me to really care.

An urban fantasy series for fans of the “Supernatural” TV show, CURSED tells the story of Constance Ramirez, a hardened young woman determined to protect her adopted sister, Dro, from the bloodthirsty demons hunting her– and from Dro’s own deadly powers. As the sisters cross paths with demon slayers, psychics, and angels, they become tangled in a dangerous web that brings Constance’s past back to haunt her. Protecting her sister and her new allies will test Constance in ways she never imagined– though she may be too human to survive it.

I admit it: I’ve been a bit of a bad author lately. I honestly had a moment where I completely forgot about Smoke Sky and it’s very soon release. I’ve been overwhelmed by projects lately and have simply had too much on my plate. Now I know why NYT bestsellers only release one book at a time or hire an assistant. Anyway, some of you might have gotten an email from me about the Smoke Sky blog tour happening, and I promise you’ll get all the materials you need next week once I have the artwork and preorder links. I’ve seen the cover and it looks awesome, so I’m really excited to share it. I also have signups for the Obsidian Sky cover reveal happening in mid-December, and am expecting the cover for that next weekend. I’m still working away at NaNoWriMo and am expecting to hit the halfway point of the novel on Tuesday (I’ll hit 50K by then by the novel will likely be 100K at the end––no pressure, right?). Plus I’m still trying to work out my writing schedule for 2017, since my two major upcoming projects are up in the air right now. Yikes! So much to do, so little time. Anyway, I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and Black Friday! I plan to buy 50 books, and can’t wait for all of them.

Be sure to check out the other Weekend Writing Warriors and leave some love on their blogs and websites. See you all next week!

No wonder you feel a little pressed for time, Amy. Wow, well done on all your milestones.

Nice dynamics in this scene, I got the visuals spot on.

Unpleasantly sticky end and I imagine a delayed agony fro the burn and concussion! She’s a stubborn fighter.

You do fight scenes as well as anyone, Amy, and this one is no exception!

I empathize with the feeling of being overwhelmed. After being on vacation for three weeks and then dragging my tail for several more weeks while I recuperate, I think I may never get caught up again. As for nearly forgetting about a book release … well, in a way that’s a good problem to have, you know?

Thank you so much! I suppose–– nearly forgetting it taught me to focus on what I need to do now as opposed to later. I definitely learned and will be pacing myself more in the future… I think. 😉

Exciting scene. I could feel his anxiety, worry for Dro, and adrenaline as he battled the Red. Great job.
