Sunday Snippet: “My mind flashed to images I didn’t want to see.”

Welcome back to Weekend Writing Warriors, the weekly blog hop where indie authors share 8-10 sentences of their current, upcoming, and newly released work. I’m focusing on the final rewrites for my new urban fantasy story, Storm of the Gods, before I start the querying. If you’ve been following along, the past two weeks have seen Derek enjoying his little brother’s surliness when faced with a screeching monstrosity in the backseat of their car, but it’s not all fun and games for these boys. Picking up directly from last week, Liam inadvertently manages to shift the mood to something a little more somber…

Liam rolled his head in my direction. “Seriously, Derek? You’re banking on speedy paperwork to get us a little relaxation?”

My palms scraped over the steering wheel. My mind flashed to images I didn’t want to see.

“Today I am,” I muttered.

Liam fell silent, no longer a cranky teenager but a concerned brother who’d caught my slip.

He settled back in his seat scuffed his boots along the floor mat. “Good point.”

Silly me! I thought the the Dark Sky series promo ended this week. Turns, out, it’s next week! So the entire five book collection is still for $4.99 for a limited time!

In the post-apocalyptic steampunk-fantasy setting of DARK SKY, a young engineer who struggles to repair a failure of the past, and to ensure a safe future for those she loves by freeing it from hellish monsters bent on revenge…

Ten years ago, vampiric beasts called Hellions invaded the city of Westraven and decimated it with fangs, claws, and cannon-fire. Now, survivors live underground and sustain themselves with the scraps left behind, often under the cruel fist of self-made leaders and grounded sky-pirates. Living under such rule is Claire, a talented young engineer working only to ensure e a life for her sister, Abigail. When Abby is kidnapped by the Hellions, Claire becomes desperate and finds herself allying with marauders– hot-tempered pirates equally as dangerous as the Hellions themselves.

As Claire forges a shaky relationship with them and their cynical young captain, she unearths truths about her past she could never have imagined, and realizes that the only way to protect those she loves is by challenging the Hellions head-on, an endeavour that could see the end of the Hellions once and for all, or secure their reign once and for all…

This coming week is definitely crunch time for me, since I have an exciting weekend coming up with one of my friends (plus A Court of Wings and Ruin is out on May 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 is out that weekend, and my fangirl heart is aching for both). I’m definitely getting antsy wanting to ship off this new version to literary agents, and I’m eager write my YA fantasy novel. I love Derek and Liam, but I need something new!

Speaking of new, are there any Weekend Writing Warriors authors on LitRing? Are any of you interested in putting together a box set with Paranormal Romance, Romance, and Young Adult as the theme? I was matched with some other newer authors and we’re looking to put one together… and I don’t think many of us know what we’re doing. I promised I would ask around, and if anyone is interested, I would love to hear from you!

Happy reading, everyone! Remember to check out the other Weekend Writing Warriors authors for romance, sci-fi, fantasy, and more! Cheers!

Amy
