I wasn’t sure I’d make it to this week’s 8Sunday post for Weekend Writing Warriors! But we got back from our cabin vacation early, and it was amazing. But more on that later. Right now, let’s focus on the reason you strolled by: 8-10 sentences from my newest release, Midnight Sky, the sequel to Crimson Sky and the second novel in the Dark Sky series. If you missed the last post I scrambled to add in, you can read it here. In this post, main character Claire is trying to figure out what’s bothering her moody captain, Sawyer. When she learns the issue is family related, she tries to reason with him, but Sawyer is nothing if not stubborn…
“This is about Davin, isn’t it?” I shot. “You’re worried he’ll come back.”
“Leave it alone, Firecracker,” he warned, using the nickname I loathed as an attempt to ward me off.
It didn’t work as he hoped.
“Sawyer, you don’t need to worry about him. If serving the Vesper was so important to Davin, wouldn’t he have attacked already?”
“We don’t know his plan, and that’s what we need to be afraid of. The other Clans don’t know he’s alive. As long as he can keep that secret, the marauders will keep coming for me. I could scream that he’s alive until I’m blue in the face, and it won’t matter because they will never believe me.”
There are secrets, there are betrayals, and there are sacrifices…
The Behemoth has been destroyed, and the bloodthirsty Hellions seem to have left Westraven. But Claire Abernathy’s mind is not at ease. A terrible disease plagues her sister, appearing to have been brought on the Vesper, the leader of the Hellions beyond the tear between worlds– the Breach.
To save Abby and stop the Hellions for good, Claire must find the machine her parents built before the attacks, and fix it before the monsters return. To do so, she needs the help of her crew, and must ignore the secrets and rivalries between her captain and the man she saved.
Because the Hellions are not the only dangers following Claire. Twisted humans and old enemies surface to stop her and destroy all she loves. While she is determined to endure the trials, a single betrayal could shatter the hope of a better world, and force Claire to make a choice that will cost her dearly…

Before I go any further, I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you to all the book bloggers and reviewers who have helped make the Midnight Sky blog tours happen. I really could not have done it without you and am more grateful than I can say. You know who you are, so give yourself a big pat on the back! You helped me become a bestseller! … on Kobo. 😉 I know, I know, not quite Amazon or USA Today and definitely not the New York Times, but you know what? When I saw that, I was thrilled. It’s huge progress, and I couldn’t be happier about it.
So, vacation and productivity. Suffice to say, I crushed it. Not only did I receive the gorgeous cover art for Deranged Doctor Design for the upcoming prequel novella, Amber Sky, I set up the synopsis, formatting, and pre-orders for it, (all of which you can view on this post here), I re-planned two worlds for upcoming series’, plotted four full length novels and five novellas, edited an entire story, worked on my query letter, and wrote a bunch of new material. Basically my vacation looked like this…
… with a little bit of this mixed in…
I’m super proud of myself. While I set waaaay too many goals for myself on that little retreat, I got more than I anticipated, and came up with some truly great stories that I can’t wait to share. I don’t know when I’ll divulge the details of them (I don’t want to give things away until after I see the results of my agent querying, which will start next week for sure), but suffice it to say that these next two series’ are my babies, and I can’t wait to see where they’ll end up.
But I haven’t forgotten about my current projects, oh no. I’ll be trying boxed sets soon–– likely in a few months with the Cursed series, and the with Dark Sky in the spring. That’s all my news for now! Be sure to check out the other Weekend Writing Warrior websites and blogs and leave their authors some love. Also, be sure to check out this post for more about Amber Sky!
