Sunday Snippet: “If you get to walk out and spare your eardrums, so do I.”

I’m back! It’s been a busy past couple weeks, what with completing my “last” draft of my new urban fantasy story, Storm of the Gods, writing the queries and hoping to have them reviewed, working on the book blurb, preparing to buy a condo, working full time, re-working my current Work In Progress, a Young Adult Fantasy, spending time with friends for birthdays, meeting new people, trying to catch up on my reading list… I could go on! But I’m happy to be back and sharing a new snippet from Storm of the Gods for Weekend Writing Warriors, the weekly blog hop where indie authors share 8-10 sentences of their current, upcoming, and newly released work. We’re picking up from where we last left off, with main character Derek noticing what looked like a black clad figure lurking on the road Derek and his brother Liam are trying to use to transport a screeching monstrosity…

I stopped the truck and unbuckled my seatbelt. Liam glanced out the window and then looked at me. “Um, I’m as annoyed at the dracanae as you are, dude, but stopping isn’t going to make it shut up.”

“I saw someone dressed in black by the pipes,” I explained, unlocking the door. “Stay here, ace.”

“What? Hell no! If you get to walk out and spare your eardrums, so do I.”

Eardrum assault aside, I have a feeling they might be better off in the car.

Maybe, maybe not. Derek likes walking headfirst into danger and Liam tends to scramble to catch up to him, so… 😉

I have a feeling something really bad is about to happen. I wonder if it was planned or just happened this way. I’m very intrigued. 🙂

Their dialogue was spot on for two people who’ve known each other a long time.

Lurking figures in black are rarely up to good. This doesn’t bode well. Fun snippet!
