Sunday Snippet: “I usually hate it when people know my name…”

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors, the blog hop where authors post 8-10 sentences from their current, newly released, or upcoming work in progress. I completely forgot to post last weekend, so here’s the snippet I meant to post, still from the first chapter of Storm of the Gods, and Derek is about to get into a fight with one fiery opponent…

“Get the door open and get the heart,” the woman said as she stalked toward me.

I slowed down, my mind racking through the spells the heart of a dracanae could be used for. There were none I could think of.

“You’re kidding,” he protested, his eyes bugging out as he watched the small woman approach me. “Did you not hear me say that’s Derek Areios!”

I usually hate it when people know my name, but sometimes it comes in handy.

She whipped out her hand and unleashed a stream of fire. I leaped aside and watched the blazing orange flames devour the air next to me. The stream arched backward, chasing me across the grit––

Something flashed in the corner of my eye.

I reached 10K words this week! While the words I wrote will have to be edited, but I still chose to celebrate by having a drink of whiskey!

If you follow me on Instagram, then you know what this led to…

I’m still working on my YA fantasy, and will hopefully be finishing Part One next week or at least by the end of August. I need to have the entire thing done by the end of September so I can prep for NaNoWriMo.

Be sure to check out the other Weekend Writing Warriors blogs and websites for your fill of sci-fi, fantasy, romance, and awesome book deals! Until next time, cheers!

Congrats on reaching 10k! If they know who he is, does that also mean they know how to fight him? That may not be a good thing. Intriguing snippet! 🙂

Someone shooting fire from their hands would be such a spectacle I’m not sure I’d move out of the way in time- I’d probably be rooted to the spot in awe. And what a cliffhanger! Nice job

I expect in this case it is a bit of an understatement! And fiery fingers – neat!

Uh oh, a glimpse of something from the corner of the eye is rarely a good thing for the character LOL. Great snippet, loved that the bad guy seemed reluctant to tangle with him.

Ooh, what is it? A bad time for a distraction, unless it’s another threat.

I got it — that picture caught his eye, right? It’s intriguing, though since I don’t follow you on Instagram, I have no idea what you’re up to.

Well, she isn’t impressed by his name. I feel just a little sorry for the monster that they’re about to kill.

Love your post entry quote and this idea of being anonymous. Congrats on the 10k. I think the most i’ve got in a week is 5-7k.
