Sunday Snippet: “I didn’t bother healing myself.”

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors, the blog hop where authors post 8-10 sentences from their current, newly released, or upcoming work in progress. I’m still posting the first chapter of Storm of the Gods, the first book in my new and upcoming urban fantasy series. Last week, the attacking scions caused out hero Derek to lose control and unleash his Berserker Rage. While two of the scions argue, one of them sees Derek, and realizes how much trouble they’re about to encounter…

***

“Shit,” rasped Gage. His shoulder shook as he coughed violently, and he shot two streams of aether into the open door of the truck. The dracanae shrieked. “I thought you said they were transporting the Heart of the Devourer.”

Fire exploded out of me from head to toe, smothering the aether eating at my skin. I didn’t bother healing myself. When the fire extinguished, I rolled to my feet, sheathed my sword, and dashed forward.

The storm-scion saw me. “Uh, guys?”

He seems to be able to handle whatever they throw at him, though not without difficulty.

Eek, this seems painful. Though probably not as painful as what he’s about to unleash on them!

His own fire doesn’t hurt him. The same can’t be said for other people, however… 😉

Well, looks like this mission was not at all what they expected and now Derek is going to make them pay. Nice snippet!

I guess he can heal himself later, once it’s all over. He seems truly pissed and not at all caring what happens to him. As for the others, “Uh, guys” doesn’t nearly cover it! Wonder if they’ll have time to heal themselves?

He’s certainly calm as he deals with all this! Enjoying this extended scene via the snippets….really terrific!

Haha Calm is a relative term, I think. 😉 And thank you so much, it means a lot! 😀

I love “Heart of the Devourer” – nice detail thrown in that says it all! I always love a good fight scene where people can throw fire or fireballs – if I could have a super power, that would be it!

He’s throwing everything at them but the kitchen sink. LOL And he doesn’t have time to heal himself. That says a lot about his ability to focus despite pain. Good job.

I agree–I’d be running for the hills, too. He sounds very, very angry.
And why the heck are they still messing with the other angry monster? Have they let the dracanae out? Seems like a bad idea.

Haha The bad guys didn’t know it was in the back of the truck. To be fair, they’ve all been obsessed with fighting each other the last few minutes. 😉

It seems awful angry and noisy to be overlooked! But I suppose someone trying to kill you makes you very focused!
