Sunday Snippet: “Furious yellow snake-eyes fixated on me.”

Hello 2018! Like me, I’m sure you’re glad to see the beginning of a new year. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and are starting their new year off well. I’m steadily getting back to work, which is good because I have a LOT going on in 2018, so let’s get right back to it with Weekend Writing Warriors, the blog hop where authors post 8-10 sentences from their current, newly released, or upcoming work in progress. Yes, I’m still posting the first chapter of Storm of the Gods, the first book in my new and upcoming urban fantasy series. Last time, Derek’s fight with the dracanae continues…

***

The one-handed dracaenae writhed maniacally on the ground, shrieking in outrage over its missing limb.

Furious yellow snake-eyes fixated on me. Dark blood dripped onto the sand in front of the dracaenae’s ruined arm. It opened its jaws and hissed. Saliva dripped from curved fangs as long as my middle finger.

The Berserker Rage swirled through my limbs. Gave me one last push of strength. Made me smile.

***

I’m still working on the final edits for Storm of the Gods and will hopefully be done them before the end of the month. I want to get everything done and have it ready for its release date ASAP, since my YA Fantasy will be taking up a LOT of time and focus after that. Not to mention that once the YA Fantasy is done and sent to editors, it will be time to write the sequel to Storm of the Gods and have that ready for December. And after that, I want to plot the third Areios Brothers book and the sequel to my YA Fantasy. I know how Areios Brothers 3 will go and have ideas kicking around for YA Fantasy 2, but that’s basically my writing schedule for the year. So yeah, I’m busy. 🙂 Good thing I love what I do!

Be sure to check out the other Weekend Writing Warriors blogs and websites for your fill of sci-fi, fantasy, romance, and awesome book deals!

Cheers,

Amy

One last push of strength…sounds like this character has been through a lot. I’m rooting for them though. #wewriwa

I typically skim ‘fight scenes’ in novels, but this one has some bite to it. Nice job.

I don’t think the dracanae is going to be in pain for much longer. Nice descriptions!

While I get that Derek needs to do what he is about to to survive, I can’t help but hope that it’s a peaceful end for the draconae. And yet … I just feel like Derek has a bit of fury to expend yet.

I’ve been thinking about this new book of yours, Amy, and given it’s strongly visual nature and the unusual creatures who inhabit it, it almost seems to me that you’re writing a graphic novel. Know any great artists?

I wish!!! I would LOVE for this to be a graphic novel one day. I’ve always wanted it to be one, and maybe if I make enough money I will be able to afford one. It’s definitely got a “superhero” appeal to it, and this series is one of my babies. My editor LOVES it and would go crazy with this notion, but right now it’s on hold. But I think I will do it one day. Thank you so much for the idea!

I’m not surprised you lean toward doing a graphic novel. This kind of had the right “feel”, though I can’t say why. I guess it’s the mythic creatures and all the strong Amy-style action.

It’s lucky he can still smile! I enjoyed your vivid description of the injured dracaenae.

The eyes are a little scary, but I’m thinking the smile might be scarier.

Well, I can see how he’ll get the scary monster, but then there’s still all those people left. And he seems about to fall over when the Rage leaves him!
